Would appreciate any advice you can give me. Step 8 Restart the MySQL server and test.
Am I missing other files that need to be in the linked Dropbox folder? I'd rather not move and link everything in order to find out what it is. Edit the file C:\xampp\mysql\bin\my.ini and modify three variables to point at the new database folder inside of Dropbox. XAMPP starts up and works fine usually - it's only after I've moved and linked those files and folders above that things go wrong.Ĭlearly I'm missing a few things, here. There are no MySQl processes or sockets running when I try to start the server Permissions don't appear to be the problem, at least from my tests The implementation and management of the Xampp become easier due to the presence of a control panel.
The simple and easy configuration and installation process add to its benefit. The platform is very robust as it has the report codecs support. Ln -s ~/Dropbox/lampp/etc/extra/nf /opt/lampp/etc/extra/nf The attributes included in Xampp are Mercury Mail, Filezilla, Perl, and so on. For this example, I will create a folder named C:\Users\Patrick\Dropbox\web-content. The first thing you need to do is set up a directory in your Dropbox folder to hold your web pages (HTML, PHP, etc.). Ln -s ~/Dropbox/lampp/etc/nf /opt/lampp/etc/nf XAMPP Installation C:\xampp Dropbox Location C:\Users\Patrick\Dropbox Step 1 Create web page directory in Dropbox folder. Ln -s ~/Dropbox/lampp/var/mysql/ /opt/lampp/var/mysql/ Mv /opt/lampp/htdocs/ ~/Dropbox/lampp/htdocs/Īnd link them all up accordingly: ln -s ~/Dropbox/lampp/htdocs/ /opt/lampp/htdocs/ Mv /opt/lampp/etc/extra/nf ~/Dropbox/lampp/etc/extra/nfĪnd these folders to my Dropbox folder: mv /opt/lampp/var/mysql/ ~/Dropbox/lampp/var/mysql/ mv /opt/lampp/etc/nf ~/Dropbox/lampp/etc/nf Save the host file using the key combo control+o, and pressing return when prompted to choose the filename. Now what I have done to get to this point is move these files. Use your keyboard’s arrow keys to navigate to the bottom of the file and add your own mapping: XAMPP VirtualHost mappings 127.0.0.1 mysite.local. With our current setup, its a piece of cake to install. XAMPP: Starting Apache with SSL (and PHP5). PHPMyAdmin ships with XAMPP and its a powerful utility, but I prefer the simplicity of SQLBuddy. I seem to have everything working except for xampp's MySQL database: Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.7.4. For this example, I will create a folder named C:UsersPatrickDropboxweb-content.
Step 1 Create web page directory in Dropbox folder. I've been fiddling around trying to get XAMPP to work from inside my Dropbox folder. XAMPP Installation C:xampp Dropbox Location C:UsersPatrickDropbox.
